Late Starts & Snow Days
School Closings/Delays/Early Release Due to Bad Weather or Other Emergency
The Westby Area School District will close, delay, or release early if conditions make it unsafe to transport students to or from school. Please review these procedures so you are prepared when school cancellations occur.
Procedures When Bad Weather Occurs Before School Starts in the Morning
As soon as the Administration and Transportation Department become aware of bad weather conditions, they will begin assessing road conditions.
The Administrator will make a decision to do one of the following:
Hold school at the regular starting time
Delay the start of school by 2 hours
Call school off for the day
The decision will be made as early as possible and the radio and television stations listed below will be called as soon as possible if there is a delay or cancellation of school.
If school is delayed by 2 hours, all morning 4K classes are canceled.
Procedures When School is Closed After Students and Staff Have Begun the School Day
The same procedures as described in #1 above will be followed.
The District Administrator and Transportation Department will discuss the situation before a decision is made to send students home early.
The decision to close will be called into the radio and television stations listed below as soon as possible.
Special precautions will be taken by the Principal and staff to make sure someone is at home for the children before students are released.
All extra-curricular practices and events, home and away, will be canceled.
